Franklin Archives of Temple Beth El will host Victoria Saker Woeste, senior research fellow, American Bar Foundation, Chicago, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the temple. Her topic, the result of research into the Henry Ford-Aaron Sapiro lawsuit of 1927, Woeste will be "Suing Henry Ford: Anti- Semitism and Law in Modern America." In the mid-1920s, Henry Ford was the defendant in a libel lawsuit. Lawyer Aaron Sapiro took Ford to trial seeking $1 million in damages after Ford's newspaper, the Dearborn Independent-, published articles accusing Sapiro and other Jews of conspiring to gain control of American agriculture, perpetrating Bolshevism and Communism and attempting to subvert American democracy. Woeste will discuss the trial, the legal and political issues it raised and new evidence revealing the behind- the-scenes events that led to the con- clusion. Cost of the event is $8.
