Hillel Day School
Names Honorees

Hillel Day School's
annual dinner will be
5:30 p.m. Tuesday,
June 5, at
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek Southfield.
The school will
honor Martin
Goldman with the
2003 Dream Maker
Award. He is a past
Hillel Day School
parent and estab-
lished the Goldman-
Hermelin Education
Foundation at Hillel
with Doreen and the
late David Hermelin.
Bernard
Goldman's list of
charitable pursuits
include Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, the Hermelin Brain Tumor
Center, Children's Hospital of
Michigan, William Beaumont
Hospital, Detroit Country Day
School, Detroit Symphony
Orchestra, Johns Hopkins Hospital,
ORT and JARC.
Hillel Day School will honor
Anaruth Bernard with the 2003
Rabbi Jacob Segal Award. Bernard
and her husband, Dr. Henri
Bernard, sent their four children to
Hillel and watched them all gradu-
ate.
Bernard is a past president of
Hillel. She is chair of the Tuition
Allowance Committee, guaranteeing
anonymity to every family that
applies for scholarship. She hosted
the Hillel "lending library" out of
her home, providing families who
do not have the means to buy their
children clothing for bar or bat
mitzvah celebrations an opportunity
to borrow donated clothing.
Bernard is the founding president
of the Detroit Friends of Alyn
Hospital and served as vice presi-
dent of the Solomon Schechter Day
School Association and of
Congregation Beth Shalom. She is a
board member of the Jewish
Theological Seminary of America.
Lori and Larry Garon and Phyllis
and' Bob Pilcowitz are the dinner
chairs. Natalie Newman serves as
fund-raising chair and Steven
Schlafer serves a associate fund-rais-
ing chair.
For reservations or information,
call Hillel's development office,
(248) 851-6950.
