"From day one, they taught me to respect others. "The Rabbi and I are so proud of him," beamed Leypsa Groner. Rabbi Groner concurred. "We believe that David will bring to this judicial post his keen commitment to justice, which has been an important part of his Jewish heritage." More than 450 people attended the ceremony and the reception that fol- lowed, including friends, family mem- bers, fellow lawyers and judges, magis- trates and referees from Federal court, Wayne County Circuit Court, several district courts and the Court of Appeals. "We've known David since he was a little boy, it's been a pleasure for us to watch him grow up and become the wonderful, mature individual that he is today," said Sharon Fleischman of Bloomfield Hills, who attended the ceremony with her husband, Marvin, a past president of Shaarey Zedek. "I think it's great to have someone who will not hesitate to do the right thing, even if it's not always 'politically correct,"' said Azzam Elder, corporation counsel for Wayne County and a longtime friend and colleague of Judge Groner. This is a wonderful occasion," said Judge Susan Moiseev of Southfield's 46th District Court. "Being here at the synagogue for this, it's like all my worlds coming together — personal, professional and religious." Our governor has chosen some- body who really embodies the stan- dards to which all of us as judges strive," said Judge Kimberly Small, who is chief judge of 48th District Court in Bloomfield Township. "I've often wondered if it's harder to be the rabbi, or the son of the rabbi," said Rabbi Groner. "Toda,y we have a reversal of roles. From now on, David is not the rabbi's son, I'm the judge's father." LI "
