Mission
Shabbat

Board of Rabbis
boosts Israel trip.

T

he Michigan Board of Rabbis
has dedicated next Shabbat,
May 16-17, as Federation's
Michigan Miracle Mission 4
Shabbat.
Mission leadership will speak at
synagogues to promote the Miracle
Mission, which is co-sponsored by
the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, the Detroit
Jewish News and the Michigan Board
of Rabbis.
This is the first Miracle Mission
co-sponsored by the Michigan Board
of Rabbis. The board president,
Rabbi Paul Yedwab, said congrega-
tions provide "a key to the success of
the Mission."
"Initiatives like the Miracle
Mission 4 Shabbat play a critical role
in building community-wide aware-
ness and participation," he said.
"Our goal is to have 500 con-
firmed reservations, with applicants
all signed up to by the end of June,"
said Richard Krugel, who co-chairs
the Mission with Peter Alter.
"With just under a year to go, we
are seeing momentum building and
scores of requests for applications.
There's no question at this time that
the community is committed to
being in Israel next April," Alter
said.
Mission leadership has dedicated
May and June for an intense cam-
paign that includes a community-
wide recruitment meeting, parlor
meetings and a telemarketing blitz,
culminating by June 30, the last day
to be eligible for the early sign-up
price of $2,745. After that, the price
is $2,895.
The Mission is set for April 18-28,
2004, and includes direct flights
from Detroit to Tel Aviv. The itiner-
ary provides for six nights based out
of Jerusalem and two nights in
Detroit Jewry's Partnership 2000
Region in the Central Galilee. There
will special programming for repeat
visitors to Israel.
