(at 12 Mile) • Farmington Hills (248) 553-9013 Open 7 Days A Week Bracha Lavee, who has been to the area before, will show her tapestries. Yaacov Greenvurcel, who also has shown here, will offer silver candlesticks and other ethnic pieces. Shneur Herman, another returning artist, will have his microcalligraphy paintings. Also represented at the fairs are the Judaica embroidery of Adina Gatt, the jewelry of Amitai Kay, the paintings of Effi Rubin and the celluloid but- terflies of Tovit Lore Shemesh. "We.have work by Greenvurcel in our home, and we really enjoy it," says Sue Rollinger, who chaired last year's Ben Yehudah Street Shopping Expo at the Oak Park Jewish Community Center with her husband, Bob, and has helped put together this year's programs. Deb Chimovitz, who is working on the Flint exhibit and sale, sought advice from the Rollingers as she arranged her synagogue's event. Because the Flint Jewish community is small, the art fair there has been publi- cized to non-Jewish neighbors. "Everyone heard about the massive Ben Yehudah Street Shopping Expo in metro Detroit," Chimovitz says. "Our first step was to explore avenues of experience from volunteers and profes- sionals who made the arrangements last August," bringing in Israeli artists and vendors to bolster the Israeli econ- omy. Congregation Beth Israel found ven- dors through other Jewish organiza- tions in Michigan as well as those working on last year's expo. Vendors who need housing will be hosted at Chabad House at Eastern Michigan University. . As the volunteers aim for successful projects, they are working in the spirit of Yom Ha'atzmaut, celebrating Israel's independence by supporting the independent efforts of Israeli artists and their representatives. "We hope people will show their support for Israel by helping the ven- dors who are coming to our shows and sales," says Sue Terebelo, active with Shaarey Zedek's sis- terhood and working on the joint project. "I think that the teaming up of congregations really exemplifies the spirit of Judaism, and we have crossed bridges of cultural and reli- gious sensitivity." ❑ 11111W EARLY BIRD COUPON AVAILABLE MONDAY-THURSDAY 3Pm-6PM Buy One Dinner Entree - Get The Second Dinner Entree for 1/2 0 of equal or lesser value Dine-in only • one coupon per customer • expires 5/31/03 mr ......%7 • • MMIIIM111•11111MI E • • •• • • • •• • • • • m ■ m •I N•Il•VI•M ••VI IN U- El E MU III U II II •I M III E NMI •••••••• it • I Bagels - Homemade Cream Cheese - Deli - Sandwiches 00W qwt4,0 400 ° Pent fax: 0145:, Premium Deli!
