Every week, I hear about it,
A bomb just gone off
In a land unknown to some, in a land some call home.
The noise has stopped, but the image remains
A suicide bomber just walked on a bus,
And put his name to shame.
Twenty-five innocent lives gone forever,
Because of one person who thought that terrorism was better.
The busy street in Jerusalem was the attack site,
Across the street from where the children used to
Fly their kites.
Today is a different day,
But no day seems to be different anymore,
A bomb has caused despair and the kites no longer soar
The children's voices are quiet,. like a bird without its song,
Every day people walk in fear, hoping change will not take long.
People pray it will never happen,
But it does just when you cannot even imagine.
There are bodies everywhere — a cemetery above ground.
The silence is like a prison, not even one sound.
Suddenly, I hear sirens, coming to help with what is already deceased,
I cannot bear to watch,
I can only hope that the terrorism will cease.
Maybe it was their time,
Maybe God stole them away,
I surely do not know; all I can do is pray.
Pray for a new beginning as Martin Luther King or Gandhi did,
A new beginning for the Jews in Israel, so I can show the land to my kids.
Now I turn off the television,
Feeling bitter about the events that just took place,
And then moments later
A tear begins to roll down my face.

between Israel and the diaspora.
And so he played a leading role in
reconstituting the Jewish Agency
for Israel, a quasi-governmental
Israeli organization that provides
services or grants for rural settle-
ment, immigration and absorption,
youth education and training,
urban rehabilitation, housing and
other activities. Fisher spent 12
years as chairman of the Agency
Board of Governors, and when he
stepped down in 1983, he was
unanimously elected its founding

chairman.
At present, Max M. Fisher is
approaching his 95th birthday. He
counts himself a fortunate man for
all of his successes, and for his
beloved family: his wife, Marjorie;
his five children, Jane, Mary,
Phillip, Julie, and Marjorie Martin;
their spouses and children and
grandchildren. Although he has
accomplished more than he dared
dream as boy in Salem, he still sees
a good deal of work to be done —
here at home and in Israel.
As he has said on more than one
occasion during his career, "The
day's not ended." O
