Patrons Reception For JTS Honorees The Detroit Friends of The Jewish Theological Seminary will host a patron reception 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at the West Bloomfield home of Joel and Shelley Tauber. The event honors this year's award recipients and supports student scholar- ships. The annual JTS dinner will be held Thursday, May 8, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Dinner speaker will be Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, Dinner chairs are Doris Blechman and Sharon Gene. Shin Award honorees include: Anne and Eugene Greenstein of Congregation Beth Shalom, Kay and Ira Harris of Congregation B'nai Moshe, Sylvia and Dr. Abe Pearlman of Adat Shalom Synagogue and Harriet and Dr. Manuel Sklar of Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Rabbi Irwin Groner of Congregation Shaarey Zedek will be presented with the Rabbi Simon Greenberg Distingtuished Service Award for lifetime achievement. The April 29 patron reception speaker will be Dr. Steven M. Brown, incoming dean of the William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education at JTS, the largest graduate school in Jewish educa- tion in North America. Learn Hebrew At B'nai Moshe Congregation B'nai Moshe will offer a 16-week beginner Hebrew conver- sation class on Thursdays from noon to 2 p.m., starting May 1. The instructor will be community educator Ahuva Newman. All are welcome. Tuition is $320 plus $20 for textbook and study materials. There are tuition discounts for mem- bers of B'nai Moshe and for Jewish educators and Jewish communal agency staffers. Students are welcome to bring their own dairy or parve lunch. If there is sufficient enrollment, this class will run through the summer and as a "Beyond Beginner" Hebrew conversation class in the fall.
