Friends Of Literacy
Hold Book Sale

2003
Activist of the Year
Award

Volunteers are needed to set up and
staff the Friends of Literacy Used Book
Sale. To volunteer, call (248) 291-1235.
The sale is sponsored by Hillel Day
School of Metropolitan Detroit, the
Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit, the Jewish
Academy of Metropolitan Detroit,
Schostak Brothers and Company, and
the Detroit Jewish News. The sale is
mentored by the Detroit Chapter of
Brandeis University National Women's
Committee and will be held at Laurel
Park Place Mall in Livonia, May 18-21.
The Friends of Literacy Used Book
Sale has scheduled two training sessions
for volunteers who will be working at
the sale. The sessions will be held 7:30
p.m. Tuesday, May 6, and 10 a.m.
Thursday, May 8, at the Max M. Fisher
Federation Building. Volunteers should
indicate which session they are attend-
ing by calling the Jewish Community
Council office, (248) 642-5393.
Paula Glazier, treasurer and training
chairman for the sale, will conduct the
training. Volunteers will learn about
check-in and checkout procedures, pric-
ing, cashiering and re-stocking. Glazier
will provide information on parking
and facilities and will be available to
answer questions posed by the volun-
teers.

The Department of Michigan Jewish
War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary
will honor three area leaders during
the Brotherhood Night program,
Tuesday, April 29, 7:30 p.m. at the
Jewish Community Center in Oak
Park.
The honorees, who will speak that
evening, are Rabbi A. Irving
Schnipper, Sen. Gilda Jacobs and
community leader Robert Slatkin.
The Rev. Henry Reinewald will rep-
resent the Four Chaplains Legacy. Past
Dept. Commander Milton Klein will
chair the event under the direction of
Dept. Commander Robert Feldman
and Dept. President Shirley Schlussel.
Refreshments will be served; the
public is invited.
