a President's Award for academic suc-
cess. The WSU women's hockey team
had its most successful season with 10
victories this year.
South Lyon junior Josh Haron
earned Honorable Mention All-
County wrestling honors at 275
pounds. Seaholm senior Ian Turk gar-
nered Honorable Mention All-Area
notice at 140 pounds.
Greenberg A was the surprise victor
in the AZA basketball playoffs April 6.
Greenberg A upset undefeated regular
season champion Shapiro A 60-57 in
the first semi-final. Jolson B downed
Jolson A 42-38 in the second semi-
final. Greenberg A prevailed in the
final, 64-49. Shapiro A won the third-
place contest, 69-45 over Jolson A.
The top three teams are invited to
the International Brotherhood
Weekend in New Jersey for a
Memorial Day weekend tournament.
Leading scorers included Brent
Saperstein of Greenberg A, David
Grant of Jolson B and Ben Sachs of
Shapiro A. Greenberg A's champion
squad included Saperstein, Ben
Margolis, Dan Stoller, Danny
Feldheim, Danny Rosenberg and
Ryan Rosenberg.
Senior point guard Drew Billmeyer,
a three-year letterman, was selected
Birmingham Seaholm's co-MVP this
season. A co-captain, Billmeyer fin-
ished third in team scoring (210
points) and first in steals (39) and
assists (106). He earned Honorable
Mention All-County, All-Metro
North and All-Area notices. Drew will
graduate in June, but Jake Billmeyer
may fill his brother's sneakers. He was
the starting JV point guard before
earning a promotion to the varsity late
in the season. He was the JV team's
second-leading scorer and won the JV
coach's award. Jake is currently play-
ing for Seaholm's varsity soccer team.
West Bloomfield native Mitchell
Rosen is part of a group that bought
the Detroit Demolition National
Women's Football Association team.
The Demolition, formerly the Detroit
Danger, won the 2002 NWFA cham-
pionship. They opened the 2003 sea-
son on April 12 and play their next
home game May 10. ❑
