award-winning beer
... and this year gar-
nering a couple of
gold medals in
Osaka, Japan, at the
annual worldwide
tasting competition.
His assistant
brewer, Rockne Van
Meter, had a "prohibition days-like"
amateur beginning, too ... brewing
beer in his basement.
GIGI'S KORNER ... "I don't have a
tux or need one, but if someone takes
me, I can go and meet my friends.
There'll be plenty of tails there.
"Always lots of good things to chew
at the annual Bow Wow Champagne
Brunch by Michigan Humane Society
on Northwestern Highway in
Southfield. Some of my homeless
friends will be given new places to live
because of you folks coming out.
"It's Sunday, April 27, at the Ritz-
Carlton, Dearborn, with silent auction
... and even a fashion show by Parisian,
with celebrity models and many of my
animal pals who can be adopted.
$175 per person will sure buy a lot of
bones and catnip ... Make a lot of pets
real happy, call 1-(866)-MHUMANE
Monday through Friday. Thanks, and a
million happy tail wags."
DUB THEM WHATEVER name
you want, and some people do ... but
the many concoctions at Hung Hua
on Orchard Lake Road in Farmington
Hills are big requests ... Like the
chicken soup with vegetables, chicken,
mushrooms, shrimp wonton, etc. ...
What else could you call it?
Daily specials that change monthly
at Hong Hua are easy calls ... filet with
king mushrooms, stir-fried grouper,
beef short ribs, combination of lobster,
Vancouver crab and sea bass, etc.
KORN KORNER ... It's Passover
during the Great Depression when
two Jewish guys are walking down the
street and happen by a church. They
see a big sign posted that says, "Join
our church and you get $50."
One of the Jewish gems stops walking
and stares at the sign. His friend turns to
him and says, "Murray, what's going on?"
"Abe," replies Murray, "I'm thinking
of doing it."
Abe says, "What are you, crazy?"
Murray thinks for a minute and says,
"Abe, I'm going to do it. The kids need
shoes and I have to put matzah and
food on the seder table." With that,
Murray strides purposefully into the
church and comes out an hour later.
"So," asks Abe, "did you get your $50?"
Murray looks up at him and says,
"Is that all you people think of?"
