Passover Prelude

achel Rosenthal, a 2001 Univesity of Michigan graduate in
religious studies, will return home to Franklin in late spring
after 10 months in Project Otzma, a work/service/learning

program.
"It is going to be a hard adjustment back to American ways
when I have become so used to Israel," the daughter
of Marta and Ben Rosenthal told me Monday.
"I hope that leaving will only be temporary."
Rosenthal's embrace of the Jewish state despite the
Palestinian terror contrasts with the propaganda that
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad recently told to a
Lebanon newspaper: "It should be known that Israel is
based on treachery. This is a point to be considered thor-
Rachel
oughly. We are dealing with treachery and threats, which
Rosenthal
accompanied the establishment of the state of Israel."
As we gather to welcome the Festival of Passover at
sundown Wednesday April 16, let us be invigorated about the
future of of our ancestral homeland by the Zionist spirit of dias-
pora young people like Rachel Rosenthal.

Chag kasher v'sameach and Shabbat shalom!
