FRED CHERRIN, 67, of Bloomfield Hills, died April 3, 2003. He was the owner of State Steel Company and a member of Temple Israel. Mr. Cherrin is survived by his beloved wife, Arlyne Cherrin; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Steve Rohde of Ann Arbor; sons and daughters-in- law, Larry and Peggy Cherrin, Robert and Becky Cherrin, all of Commerce Township; grandchil- dren, Megan Furman, Jenna, Joseph and Cherrin Hannah Cherrin; mother, Dorothy Cherrin of Florida; moth- er-in-law,- Ethel Levine;. sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Milton Greenspan; brothers-in-law and sis- ters-in-law, Joanne and Larry Cohen, Cheri and Dr. Stewart Epstein. He was the beloved son of the late Lem Cherrin; son-in-law of the late Melvin Levine. Interment at Machpelah Cemetery. HENRY DROZ, 76, of Los Angeles, died March 27, 2003. He was one of the record industry's most respected and innovative fig- ures, known as "the architect of modern music distribution." Born in Detroit in 1926, Mr. Droz was an Army technical ser- , geant in the Criminal Investigation Division under General Douglas MacArthur during the Japanese occupation following World War II. During his service, Droz he received the Good Conduct Medal and was also an Ml rifle marksman. Following his tour of duty, Mr. Droz attended Wayne State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration. After college, he began his career in the music busi- ness at the Detroit warehouse of Decca Records. Mr. Droz struck out on his own in 1954 as founder of Arc Distributing Co., an independent record distributor, which he later sold to Detroit-based Handleman Company in 1962. He continued to run Arc until 1972, when he started at WEA in their Burbank - headquarters. He was promoted to vice president of sales a year later and, in 1975, was named executive vice president. He became presi- dent of WEA in 1977 and remained until his retirement 1993 to become a senior adviser to the Warner Music Group. A music industry leader spanning six decades, Mr. Droz was chairman emeritus of Universal Music & Video Distribution, the sales and distribution arm of the Universal Music Group. He joined Universal in 1996 as president and became chairman in 1999, overseeing its growth as the industry's mar cet share leader with a family of labels including Universal/Motown, A&M, DreamWorks, Geffen, Interscope, Island/Def Jam, MCA, MCA Nashville, Mercury Nashville. Prior to his tenure at Universal, Mr. Droz was president and CEO of Warner Elektra Atlantic (WEA) of the Warner Music Group for 16 years. Over the years he received many awards, including the T.J.
