THE ISSUE
The just-concluded Arab League
summit came out strongly against
the current U.S.-led coalition's
efforts to disarm Iraq of weapons of
mass destruction, calling it
"American-British aggression," an
attack on the territorial integrity of a
member state. The Arab League also
repeated the demand that interna-
tional sanctions against Saddam
Hussein's regime be lifted. This is
not the first time the league has
engaged in a one-sided verbal attack.

The latest Arab League statements
on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict
ignore suicide bombings against
Israeli civilians, fully back what is
called the "heroic Palestinian intifit-
da" (uprising) against "Israeli
aggression and crimes," describe
Yasser Arafat as a legitimate leader
and call for the return of Palestinian
refugees to Israel (which would
result in an end to the Jewish
majority in Israel).

Council of Metropolitan Detroit

learning basketball skills is clearly the
best part of the club.
One boy says he's excited about hav-
ing learned how to control the ball,
while the boy they call "Gingy," which
means redhead in Hebrew, is very into
dribbling.
Meanwhile, Chaim Benjoia, 11, the
team captain, says he likes learning
how to play without fighting, "unlike
soccer." Spoken like a true team cap-
tain.
"Watch that kid," said Hasid,
pointing at Benjoia. "He'll be a para-
trooper captain one day." ❑
