Mitchell Danow, JTA Foreign Editor NewYork/JTA — The Jewish Telegraphic envy's longtime foreign editor, Mitchell Danow, 55, died of a heart attack March 20, 2003, while on vaca- tion in Japan. Responsible for much of JTA's foreign copy and news briefs, his edited stories would be virtually error-free — JTA staffers often marveled at how he could churn out such clean copy under dead- line pressure. Mr. Danow worked for a media indus- try newsletter and Newsweek before deciding to work in Jewish journalism. He did a brief stint at the Forward before coming to JTA in 1993. "I wanted to write about something that I care about," he said. Mark Joffe, JTA's executive editor and publisher, said, "With certain news devel- opments that might not make the main- stream press, he was concerned that if JTA didn't report it, the world would not know it had happened. "He painstakingly documented every terrorist attack and every development in the battle for Holocaust restitution and justice — issues about which he cared passionately." — Peter Ephross, Jewish Telegraphic Agency Photos Welcome The Jewish News will be happy to publish photographs of the deceased in all obituaries.
