Two OF THEIR OWN from page 117 estate firm Schostak Brothers & Company in the 1970s. After her children were grown, Mrs. Techner earned a real estate sales license. Working in collections for Schostak was a job to her liking. "If someone didn't pay, they had to deal with my mother," said David Techner, making that sound formidable. Sher said, "She was one of the smartest people I have ever run across. She was quick and very direct." Mrs. Techner graduated from Detroit Central High School. Her husband, Harry, 12 years her senior, met her when he was a customer at her father's deli. David Techner said his mother was a fantastic baker, "Her white chocolate cheesecake was to die for." One of her cookie fans, Rabbi Harold Loss of Temple Israel, officiated at Mrs. Techner's March 23 funeral. She also loved knitting and delivering Meals on Wheels. Harry Techner died of cancer in 1980. When Mrs. Techner moved into an apartment near the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield, her son "guilt-tripped",her into using the health club pass he bought her. "It was an interesting transformation," David said. She would walk six or seven miles daily and stopped eating meat. After developing Alzheimer's disease, Mrs. Techner walked long distances inside Menorah House. "That really sus- tained her at the end of her life," David Techner said. Mrs. Techner is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Ilene Techner of Birmingham, Stephen and Linda Techner of Ballwin, Mo., Marc and Patty Techner of Santa Cruz, Calif.; grandchildren, Ari, Chad and Stephanie Techner, Michael and Rikki Techner, Hayley and Danielle Techner; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Lewis Cooke of Livonia; brother, Malcolm Dishell of Florida; and brother-in-law and sister-in- law, Sy and Myrna Techner.
