While the siddur cover project is for-
mally announced at Hillel in December
or January, "we've all known about the
first-grade project," says Gould. "People
just talk about it." The school also puts
up a display case showing colorful exam-
ples from previous years.
Hillel will have its siddur presentation
party for some 75 first-graders 7 p.m.
May 29 at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Elaine Darmon of Franklin and the
Hillel PTO says the party is a celebration
of the children learning their Hebrew
and prayers. The covered siddurim pre-
sented by the parents wil be used by the
students throughout their years at Hillel.
While many parents make elaborate
covers for their students, some children
elect to make their own and some parents
make different kinds of covers. In addi-
tion to the presentation of the siddurim,
the children perform a program to cele-
brate their Hebrew learning.
