An Eye On The Town

ORT TEA

The Young Adult Division of
Women's American ORT hosted
a Tea at the Townsend in
Birmingham on March 13. Patti
Aaron, the national vice presi-
dent of Women's American
ORT, greeted the crowd and
spoke of ORT's impact world-
wide to empower women to be
economically self-sufficient and
productive members of society.
Molly Chernow, Stacey Eisenberg, Nicole Kovacs Dr. Lynda Giles, a clinical psy-
chologis, was the keynote speak-
er. Giles' talk, "Are Women
Hapless Heroines?", addressed
the messages conveyed by the
news media that girls should be
more cute than competent.
Grown up versions of Cinderella
"are an insult to our intelli-
gence," and it's important to
dispel myths about being pas-
sive, getting rescued and not
taking control. Nicole
Linda Lutz Susan Deutsch, Marla ICaftan, Lori Bairon Eisenberg, Laura Gorosh and
Melanee Wertheimer were co-
chairs; Sandy Shecter was the
adviser. Some of the tea-totters
spotted in the crowd included
Doreen Hermelin, Andi Wolfe,
Lori Barron, Susan Deutsch
and Marla Kaftan.
