He was a school teacher in Detroit for over 40 years, teaching at Miller High School, Central High School and Cody High School, where he was the department head of the Social Studies Department. He also taught Sunday school at B'nai Moshe. Mr. Gornbein was honored at Miller High School as one of their best teachers. He was also chosen Abe Gornbein Teacher of the Year at Cody High School. He had two wonderful marriages: with Lillian, his first wife, who passed away at age 49, and to Reva, with whom he just celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary. In retire- ment, he and Reva would spend most of the year in Michigan and winters on Coronado off San Diego. He had a love of music, travel and history. He is survived by his beloved wife, Reva Gornbein; sons and daughter- in-laws, Henry and Debra Gornbein of Bloomfield Hills, Michael and Goldie Stetten of Wilmington, N.C.; brothers and sister-in-law, Joseph Gifford of Boston, Mass., Carl and Myra Gornbein of West Bloomfield; sister, Sophie Forden of Traverse City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stan and Elizabeth Gross; grandchildren, Laurie (Brad) Jerris, Jonathan Gornbein, Chesley Stetten, Adam Stetten and Skylar Stetten; great-grandson, Benjamin Jerris. He was the dear husband of the late Lillian Gornbein; brother of the late Bernard Gornbein. A memorial service was held at the Dorfman Chapel.
