rts, puppets and parcels of
treats were the focus at the
first family Purim party of
the Russian Division of
the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit, held March 9 at the Jewish
Community Center in Oak Park.
About 50 kids and as many adults
celebrated the holiday by crafting
Purim-character finger puppets, mak-
ing groggers and loading mishloach
manot Purim parcels with sweets.
The children also learned about
the needy in Israel and made tzedakah
jars to take home to fill with dona-
tions for Federation's Grand
Challenge Israel Emergency Fund.
"It was a nice, mellow, relaxing
event for Russian Jewish families,"
said David Contorer, the Russian
Division's liaison at Federation.
