In Yoni's 4th grade classroom,
3 miles from the border,
terrorism isn't the
most immediate enemy.
As painful as it is to see Israel under siege, today
there are even more serious threats to her survival.
Israel's economy has all but collapsed. The poverty
rate is now 20%. One out of every four children,
almost 500,000 children, now live in poverty.
As hard as it is to picture children starving in Israel,
this is the reality today.
In Detroit's Partnership 2000 Region of the Central
Galilee, teachers report that the extended-day
programs funded by our community have become
lifelines for children from impoverished homes. For
many of these children the hot lunches served at
school is their one balanced meal of the day
And tomorrow? Where will Israel's children be, if we
don't provide for them today? Please call. Email.
