arget can add anoth-
er bull's eye to its
logo because a new
partnership with
children's bedding and accessories
designer Amy Coe is right on the
mark. A limited-edition line named
amy coe now brightens the shelves
of Target. This introductory collec-
tion called "le cirque des enfants"
features a circus-themed fabric
reminiscent of French vintage
designs. The mix-and-match col-
lection offers colorful bumper pads,
sheets and duvets, while a home
accessories line includes lamps,
wallpaper borders, diaper bags and
even a stuffed elephant. And the
price is right. Prices range from
$5.99 to $39.99.
"I was always the artsy one,"
says Coe, talking about her college
days at the University of Florida.
After moving to New York, she
began her career working at a pub-
lishing house. She left publishing
to nourish her creative appetite and
joined the fashion world designing
handbags and belts. After her mar-
riage to Mark Coe and the birth of
her daughter, Olivia, she found a
void while decorating the nursery

"I loved beautiful vintage fabrics
from the '30s and the '40s and
nothing was my taste," says Coe in
a telephone interview from her
office in Westport, Connecticut.
She literally began sewing pieces
of vintage fabric together and made
a snuggly for Olivia. "I walked into
ABC Carpet after a cold call, and I
walked out with a $4,000 order,"
she recalls. Amy Coe Inc. was born
and for the past 10 years her exclu-
sive designs have been sold at bou-
tiques and specialty shops nation-
wide. (Locally her exclusive items

Bloomfield Hills and Nancy's
Linens in Sylvan Lake.)
Target approached Cole two
years ago to develop a line for its
stores. She is very proud that she
designs and checks all of the mer-
chandise.
Cole quickly admits that her first
priority is her family. She juggles
Hebrew school carpool, dance les-
sons and homework along with
family dinners. "The balance is
critical in my life."
Even if it includes acrobatic
elephants, bouncing balls and
circus clowns.
