Congregation T'chiyah has begun a
series of free monthly lectures, titled
"Connections and Conflicts: The
Complex Relationship between Jews and
Arabs — Past, Present and Future." The
series is a part of the synagogue's focus on
tikun olam (repairing the world).
All talks take place at 8:15 p.m. at the
Royal Oak Woman's Club, 404 S.
Pleasant (corner of W. Fourth Street) in
Royal Oak. The lectures will follow a
7:45 p.m. Shabbat service. Classes are
independent of one another and can be
attended individually.
The lecture series will include:
• March 14: A Historical Perspective
on Jewish-Christian and Jewish-Muslim
Relations with Nina Caputo, Ph.D., vis-
iting assistant professor of Judaic Studies
at the University of Michigan.
• April 11: Jews, Muslims and Arabs
as Minorities in America with David
Gad-Harf, executive director of the
Bloomfield Township-based Jewish
Community Council of Metropolitan
Detroit; Terry Ahwal, local and national
Arab communities activist and former
executive assistant to Wayne County
Executive Edward McNamara; and Eide
Alawan, member of Islamic Center of
America and local Muslim community
activist.
• May 9: Moving Beyond
Contemporary Conflicts with Frederic S.
Pearson, Ph.D., director of the Wayne State
University Center for Peace and Conflict
Studies and the Program on Mediating
Theory and Democratic Systems.

Adat Shalom Synagogue will hold its
next healing service 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 20.
The service is designed for those
who long for a greater sense of spiri-
tuality or have concerns related to
grief, physical or emotional illness or
change. Services are led by Rabbi
Herbert A. Yoskowitz and Cantor
Howard Glantz and are planned
throughout the year.
The healing services are sponsored
by Adat Shalom's Caring
Community, a sub-committee of the
Adat Shalom Social Action
Committee. Chairing the Caring
Community are Susie Graham and
Diane Howitt.

Congregation B'nai Moshe's monthly
guest scholar series, "The Power of
Seven," will conclude on Monday, April
7, with a study session featuring Rabbi
Lee Buckman, head of school for the
Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit.
The program is open to all learners.
No knowledge of Hebrew is required.
The study session will take place from
7:30-9 p.m. Tuition is $10 (members
of B'nai Moshe, $8). Adult learners
may register in advance or at the door.

Torah Center
Marks Purim

There will be a children's Purim
party 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at
the Sara Tugman Bais Chabad Torah
Center in West Bloomfield. There
will be pony rides, arts and crafts,
games and refreshments.
The charge is $7 per child; $6
each for two or members of a family.
The megillah reading will take
place at the Torah Center 7:15 p.m.
Monday, March 17, followed by a
masquerade party, refreshments,
music and dancing. Prizes will be
awarded to all children (ages 1-101)
in costume. There is a charge.
There will be an additional
megillah reading at 9:30 p.m. and
on Tuesday, March . 18, at 7:30 a.m.
and at noon.

ent time, call the Torah Center,

The festivities will continue at the
Torah Center's annual Purim dinner
Tuesday, March- 18, at Congregation
Dovid Ben Nuchim, 14800 Lincoln
Road, Oak Park at 6 p.m. with
music and dancing. There will be a
megillah reading at 5:15 p.m. prior
to dinner. For reservations, call the
Torah Center.
