Her topic will be "American Jewish Politics at a Crossroad: A Critical Examination of 21st Century Jewish Politics." A professor of politi- cal science and public policy at Northeastern Illinois University for 20 years, Dr. Cannon holds a doctorate in political science and public policy from the University of Dr. Ellen Massachusetts. On Monday evening, the syna- gogue's education and youth depart- ment will sponsor two Purim carni- vals.- Haman's Hide-a-Way, for chil- dren 2-5 years old, will include moon walks, a magic show, a clown, and all the games youngsters can play for $5. Elementary school children will find a variety of games with prizes at Mordechai's Marvelous Magical Museum. Tickets can be purchased in $5 packets. The carnivals will run from 5-7 p.m. A light dinner at 6:30 p.m. will be available for $4 per person. Reservations for dinner are required. The congregation's annual mega- megillah program will begin at 7 p.m. It will feature Adat Shalom teenagers reading the megillah and a variety of activities and treats for the children. Readers will be Natalie Blum, Alex Greenstein, Hannah Graff, Aaron King, Michael Lieberman, Liat Lis, Amy Miller, Emily Phillips, Hannah Posen, Dana Schostak; Yael Smiley, Shana Supowit, Ilyssa Tackel and Zachary Yost Synagogue teens will read the megillah once again on Purim morn- ing, March 18, at 7 a.m. Adat Shalom will conclude Purim festivities with its annual Purim Party Plus event on Saturday, March 23. The evening will begin with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails at 8 p.m. A buffet with music and dancing will follow. Winners of the congregation's annual Purim fund-raising will be drawn that evening, along with win- ners of other Purim prizes. A $250 ticket admits two to the party and provides one ticket in the Purim drawing. Chairing Purim Party Plus 2003 are Shelley and Ed Kohl. Throughout the week, Adat Shalom nursery, kindergarten and reli- gious school students will participate in a variety of classroom experiences related to Purim. Israel's History Is Series Focus Rabbi Daniel Nevins will present three lectures on the history of the State of Israel 8 p.m. Wednesdays, March 12, 19, 26 at Adat Shalom Synagogue. Rabbi Nevins will look at the 54 years since Israel's declaration of independence, discussing Israel's foundational docu- ments and political structure, the effort made to absorb world Jewry, the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict and the efforts of the Masorti movement to develop a pluralis- tic Jewish culture in Israel.
