Prentice, JAS
To Feed Seniors

Under a new part-
nership, Unique
Restaurant
Corporation
(URC), headed by
Matt Prentice,
started providing
food service
March 1 for
Jewish Apartments
& Services.
Matt Prentice
JAS includes
400 residents of
Meer and
Hechtman apartments on the
Eugene and Marcia Applebaum
Jewish Community Campus in West
Bloomfield.
"Originally, URC approached
Meer for the purposes of using their
kitchen for URC catering," Prentice
said. "We were told of the problems
they were having feeding their resi-
dents, and it seemed natural that
Milk & Honey could be of help.
"Watching dinner in the dining
room one evening, I recognized
practically everyone as having been
a long-time customer. URC looks
forward to serving these customers
again, albeit not in our restaurants,
but in their home."
In accordance with Jewish dietary
law, dairy and meat foods will be
prepared in separate kitchens locat-
ed at the Jewish Community Center
in West Bloomfield. The kitchen at
Milk & Honey of West Bloomfield
will be for dairy foods. Food con-
taining meat will be prepared in a
newly constructed kitchen in the
Meer apartment building.
Operation of the Meer kitchen
has been certified glatt kosher by
the Council of Orthodox Rabbis of
Greater Detroit. URC will use that
kitchen to cater meat events.
Established in 1967, JAS serves
nearly 1,000 residents and their
families at locations in Oak Park
and West Bloomfield. In addition to
senior adult apartments, JAS pro-
vides daily meals, transportation and
personal care assistance within its
buildings.
Bingham Farms-based URC owns
and operates 14 restaurants, a bak-
ing facility and the largest inde-
pendently owned catering service in
southeastern Michigan.
