THESE FABULOUS OFFERS FROM
sportscaster Al Ackerman came up
with the "Bless You Boys" saying that
received worldwide coverage.
In the late 1980s, with Mike
Kratchman and the late Dr. Howard
Weisman, Marvin made an attempt to
re-establish the old Detroit-Windsor
Ferry Boat Service ... The three encoun-
tered too many problems ... immigra-
tion, customs, etc. ... and although very
close, decided to abandon the idea.
He is a pharmacist, too ... and was
in one of the first graduating classes at
Detroit Mumford High ... before
going to University of Michigan
College of Pharmacy ... and graduat-
ing in 1961.
Marvin has also been a soda jerk ...
making sundaes and filling cones as a
youngster at the drug store Marvin
today owns in Detroit.
His expetiences began when, as a
youth, Marvin worked on a farm in
Mayville, Mich. ... milking more than
60 Holstein cows by hand every day ...
and "shoveling plenty of manure.
Oh, yes ... Marvin is a full-fledged
Kentucky colonel too ... an honor
-bestowed upon him years back.
One thing he'll never receive,
though, is an award for best dressed
man ... To this day, Marvin Yagoda
dresses at the museum like he was still
milking those Hol-steins.
SEVEN YEARS AGO she was diag-
nosed as having breast cancer ... and
in November of 1995 was part of a
week-long TV special with Robbie
Timmons on Channel 7's "My Friend
has Breast Cancer."
Today, Roz Lullov Cooperman, head
of September Moon Productions
Network on Northwestern Highway in
Southfield, will be instrumental in pre-
senting what may be among the finest
fund-raising events yet by the Barbara
Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
Its 21st annual black-tie dinner will
have Harry Belafonte with his back-up
singers and band ... Saturday, June 7 ... at
the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center.
Roz and her staff are working on pre-
senting a unique and different look ...
with a transformation of the inner and
outer Winter Garden ballroom into a
Carnevale theme ... as rare costumes and
floats capture a Brazilian feel and look.
Bellefonte himself is a cancer sur-
vivor ... having recovered from pros-
trate cancer.
CONGRATS ... to Frank Ellias
on his 60th birthday ... No, his right
arm in a sling isn't the doings of
Frank's wife, Betty ... She's too sweet
to swing ... Just an operation to take
care of yesteryear troubles ... from
falling off motorcycles, horses, etc.
