"Performances start at 9:30-10 in the evening, and are over at about 2 a.m. Everybody holds a candle before the overture. "It's very romantic," she adds, "but not so much when you are by yourself." Mishura's husband, Jack Morris, a credit manager for Michigan Consolidated Gas, can sometimes join her for a few days on the road. And when she's singing at the Met, she frequently sees her daugh- ter, Rachel, a student at NYU. "I just wish I was a little less busy," Mishura admits. "You miss sleeping in your own bed. I went from 'waiting in the wings' to 'too much.'" But Mishura has many more years on the opera stage before she decides to call it quits. She's especially excited to be selected for the role of Marina in the Met's new production of the Mussorgsky epic Boris Godunov, to be performed early in 2004. In 10 years in the United States, I have never sung a Russian opera," she says. Although she is looking for- ward to singing the music of her native tongue, Mishura does not miss the former Soviet Union. "I consider myself exception- ally lucky to have come here," she says. "The people in Detroit really took me close to their hearts." ❑ — Diana Lieberman " cq WA, 'Dnittite.ncect cffion447, accofiry2aAied ceofnaez/, ctuiv ttast &otectio4q/ 4 &_e, `MA Staten Wines/, anS ceicp/i/si Fteisemtect 61/ auiv iiei e4 ate/I/di/a& stag Wednesdays & Thursday Only Buy one dinner at normal price and receive a second meal of equal or lesser value at 50% off One dinner per table.
