Three students from Hillel Day
School of Metropolitan Detroit in
Farmington Hills have been named
local winners in the annual America
and Me essay contest, sponsored by
Farm Bureau Insurance.
Jonathan Warsh of Bloomfield
Hills placed first; David Devries of
West Bloomfield placed second; and
Bradley Millman of West
Bloomfield placed third. All three
received award certificates for their
achievement.
As the school's first-place winner,
Warsh will have his named engraved
on a plaque for permanent display
in the school. His first-place essay
now advances to the state-level corn-
petition, from which the top 10
essays in Michigan will be selected.

Sinai-Grace Gives
Healthcare Grants

Sinai-Grace Hospital's Srere
Women's Care Fund awarded
$50,000 to local women's healthcare
programs.
Kids Kicking Cancer, Positive
Change Project, Mending Life's New
Beginning and several Detroit
Medical Center programs are among
the projects awarded grants.
The SWCF annually grants
approximately $50,000 to non-profit
organizations that support women
and infants' health care and social
welfare needs in the DMC northwest
region, at-risk populations or unin-
sured women and infants. Start-up
and short-term programs enhancing
health care access to northwest
Detroit are given priority considera-
tion.
The Srere family established the
SWCF in 1998 to benefit mothers
and infants receiving care at Sinai-
Grace Hospital. It has since expand-
ed to help create and enhance pro-
grams within the northwest DetrOit
community. These programs include
community outreach, home health
nursing, social work programs,
health screenings and education.
