Israel Teach-In

To help the community better
understand and respond to issues
critical to Israel's survival today,
Detroit Jewry's Seminars for Adult
Jewish Enrichment (SAJE) will fea-
ture "Israel — Ready to Respond:
An Afternoon with Experts."
Keynote speaker David Makovsky
will discuss "Israel's Latest War."
The program will be 1-3:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 2, at the Jewish
Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
Makovsky is a senior fellow at the
Washington Institute for Near East
Policy, where he focuses on Arab-
Israeli relations and U.S. foreign
policy on the Middle East.
A one-hour breakout session will
offer a choice of topics ranging from
Israel advocacy to biblical history
with the following facilitators:
• David Makovsky, "Ask About Israel"
• Owen Alterman, research assistant
to Professor Alan Dershowitz at
Harvard Univeristy Law School,
working on Dershowitz's forthcoming
book The Case for Israel, in a session
geared to high school and college stu-
dents, "Israel, Ready to Respond"
• David Gad-Hart, executive director,
Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit, "Advocating for
Israel: What to Say and Whom to Say
It To"
• Rabbi Elazar Meisels, Dirshu
Institute, "Why This Plot of Land?"
• Michael Weiss, Jewish Academy of
Metropolitan Detroit, "Land of
Miracles-Eretz Yisrael in the
Midrash."
