Aside from the long-term benefits, those of us who were members of Jewish youth groups – from all movements and several Jewish organizations – remember the spe-. cial bonds formed among like-minded friends. Whether it was observing Shabbat together, enjoying Israeli dancing or horsing around the pool, all was done in a spirit of camaraderie that likely hasn't been equaled since those teen years. Now baby boomers, often with teens of their own in Jewish youth groups, are nostalgic for those days when such friends defined their world. And national youth group offices are responding by tapping into alumni for fundraising but also by facilitating reunions and Web sites that help peo- ple reunite with their long-lost friends. Such a reunion is brewing April 4-6 in Cleveland for members of Central Region United Synagogue Youth (CRUSY). And the word is spreading fast. In our Cover Story, Special Writer Lori Weiss of Southfield, a former CRUSY partici- pant herself, captures the excitement as old friends reminisce and rekindle that spark that drew them together as teens. — Keri Guten Cohen, story development editor Our New The Jewish News is in the former FTD World Headquarters, 29200 Northwestern Highway at Franklin Road, Suite 110, Southfield 48034.
