Movie work came before TV His
film debut was in Nightmare in
Shadow Woods with Louise Lasser, and
his TV initiation came with the sitcom
Knight and Day with Jack Warden.
Other continuing TV roles were in
seaQuest DSV, Twin Peaks and
American Gothic. The actor also
appeared in the made-for-TV film
Apollo 11 as well as the feature films
Patriot Games with Harrison Ford and
Darkman, which involved all three
Raimi brothers.
"I've had several projects since Xena,"
Raimi says. "I just did a movie called
The Illusion with Kirk Douglas. It's
done in three parts as a dying, wealthy
man hires a medium to find his son.
"I also did a horror picture, The Attic
Expeditions, which just was released by

movies in town, where he pays lower
admission prices than are charged in
California.
"It's nice to be in a place that's more
grounded," says Raimi, who got his
religious training at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek and now belongs to a
synagogue in Hollywood. "I got used
to the cold pretty fast, and I think it's
fun to wear hats, boots and scarves.
I've missed the change in seasons."
Raimi, the son of Leonard and Celia
Raimi, will be in town almost exclu-
sively until summer, when he begins
filming again. There will be a Spider-
Man sequel and a sci-fi television film,
The Man With the Screaming Brains.
"I'll be doing some writing while
I'm in Michigan," says Raimi, who
collects vintage paperbacks to inspire

Before returning to Michigan, Raimi
directed a music video, Close to Home,
for the band Fonda.
Raimi thoroughly enjoyed the expe-
rience, and that gave him the idea to
launch a video business in Detroit,
starting with the band Radiocraft.

Opportunities

"There are lots of labels in Detroit,
but if they want to make a video, they
have to think about going to Los
Angeles or New York," says Raimi,
who has studied piano and guitar.
"Because there are so many bands in
town, I don't think that music videos
will be difficult to do here."
Raimi, who is single, is making time
to visit with family and friends and
stop by some of his favorite restaurants
and night spots, including the Magic
Stick in Detroit. He also likes going to

his scripts. "I'm working on a new
show for the summer pitches to the
networks. It's a spoof that I also want
to produce.
"I haven't written in a part for me
because I don't think one person can
do very well producing, writing and
acting in one show." ❑

The Foreigner runs through March
9 at Meadow Brook Theatre on
the campus of Oakland University
in Rochester. Evening performances
are 8 p.m. Wednesdays-Fridays
and two Saturdays, Feb. 22 and
March 8; 6 p.m. Saturdays, Feb.
15 and March 1; and 6:30 p.m.
