A book about the musical association, Indivisible by Four: A String Quartet in Pursuit ofilannony, was written by Steinhardt and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in the fall of 1998. It has many anecdotes about the Jewish instrumentalists with whom they have worked. The 2002-2003 season finds Guarneri touring throughout the United States, Europe and the Far East. Members also con- tinue their annual Metropolitan Museum of Art six-concert series and their residency at the University of Maryland. The Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies has announced the 10th anniversary installment of the Spertus Prize, a biennial, juried competition for the creation of Jewish functional art. The competition, open to artists of all nationalities and religions, awards a $10,000 prize. The object to be created is a ner tarnid, or sanctuary eternal light, with the spiritual qualities of light as the theme. The deadline for entries is Dec. 5, 2003.
