Alters 'Jew' Entry
London/JTA — The publisher of a
Scrabble dictionary agreed to alter its
definition of "Jew," used as a verb, fol-
lowing a complaint by a leading
British Jewish group.
British Jewry's Board of Deputies
welcomed the decision to replace "to
cheat or get the better of" with "old
offensive word meaning to haggle."
Resolution
Praises Israel
Washington/JTA — A bill praising the
democratic elections process in Israel
passed the U.S. House of Representatives
by an overwhelming 41 1 2 vote.
The non-binding resolution, submit-
ted by Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., ex-
presses Congress' respect for Israel's
democratic elections and reaffirms the
U.S.-Israeli relationship.
The resolution also urges the Pal-
estinian leadership to "abide by com-
mitments made to the United States
and to Israel" and calls on Palestinians
to support President Bush's call for new
Palestinian leadership and an end to
terror. Lawmakers Ron Paul, R-Texas,
and Nick Rahall, D-WVa., opposed
the resolution.

Gas Masks
For Palestinians?
Jerusalem/JTA — Israeli human rights
activists want Israel to supply gas
masks to Palestinians in case of an
Iraqi attack.
The Israeli chapter of Physicians for
Human Rights filed a petition with
the country's High Court asking it to
order the government to supply the
kits in case Baghdad fires missiles at
Israel following a U.S. attack on Iraq.
Israel's Defense Ministry did not com-
ment on the petition, according to the
daily Hdaretz newspaper. During the
1991 Gulf War, the court ordered the
government to supply the masks to
Palestinians, but only 50,000 had been
distributed to 3 million Palestinians in
the West Bank and Gaza Strip when
Iraqi Scuds rained down on Israel. Many
Palestinians cheered the missile attacks.
