J O ulie Weingarden Dubin speaks from aisle-walking experience. The sec- ond-time bride has two formal wed- dings under her "satin sash," giving her all the etiquette savvy she needed to write How to Plan an Elegant Second Wedding, Achieving the Wedding You Want with Grace and Style (Prima Publishing, $16.95). Dubin, a Huntington Woods resi- dent, combined her first-hand experience with her career as a national magazine journalist, giving readers a well- researched guide and invaluable advice. In welcoming her readers to the "sec- ond-time sisterhood," Dubin writes, "... this book will walk you through the wed- ding prep steps and let you know which rituals aren't necessary the second time around. You can make this wedding much more personalized than your first." Dubin and her fiance, for example, wrote their own vows and only registered for things that "really meant something to us." Dubin talked to many second-time brides who felt they were left out of the mix when it came to wedding planning info. Becky, for instance, wanted to know Julie and if it was 'proper' to wear white, to marry in a church and to have bridesmaids. "You can," says Dubin. In fact, her book centers around three beliefs: 1. Every wedding is a celebration. It doesn't matter how many times you've worn a fancy white dress. This is the first time you and your groom are marrying each other! 2. There are no rules. Besides, if you're divorced, you're not going to get hung up on some ancient etiquette. After all, you've already broken the rules. 3. Second chances are sweet. The book mines a plethora of resources, including relationship experts, psycholo- gists, financial planners and lawyers, as well as "the usual suspects" whose jobs it is to plan and coordinate weddings. In addition, Dubin shares the stories of second-time brides and grooms from around the country. From "Getting Over Your Second- Wedding Guilt," to "Letting Your Kids Join In," How to Plan an Elegant Second Wedding provides advice and direction in an easy-to- read, conveniently sized, soft-cover guide- book that could become the second-time- around-bride's bible.
