Congregation Shaarey Zedek's
Applebaum Center offers theme
classes for grandparents and grand-
children to share.
Registration is open for Breakfast
and Brachot with the Rabbi, Bring a
Child to Tea, Sundays with Saba and
Safta, and Papas, Preschoolers and
Parsha. On challah days, parents and
children braid and bake challah
dough. The Tu b'Shevat seder will be
Jan. 20.
Some of the new classes offered
involve effective parenting, teaching
a child to read, kosher cooking and
planning the child's financial future.

The Agency for Jewish Education
Lifelong Learning Department
announces Hebrew language and
Judaic studies classes for adults for
the winter-spring semester. Three
Judaic classes and nine Hebrew class-
es are being offered this semester.
"Parshat Hashavuah," a course on
the weekly Torah portion, explores
each portion, including both tradi-
tional and modern commentaries,
and will meet Wednesdays 12:10-
1:10 p.m.
"Priests, Prophets and Kings: The
First Book of Samuel," a course dis-
cussing the personalities that shaped
the first kingdom in Israel, is being
offered Wednesdays 10:30- noon.
"Inside the Rabbinic Mind," an
exploration of Talmud, commen-
taries and other genres of rabbinic
literature, is being offered: Tuesdays
10:30 a.m. to noon or Wednesdays
7:30-9 p.m. Students can register for
either section. The above Judaic
classes are taught by Rabbi Rod
Glogower, rabbinic resource of the
B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation at the
University of Michigan.
Hebrew classes, from beginning to
advanced levels, also are offered. A
class for total beginners may be
added.
Classes begin the week of Feb. 3
and meet for 14 sessions at the Max
M. Fischer Federation Building in
Bloomfield Township. For informa-

port group for teenagers who have
lost a loved one or a friend to sui-
cide.
The group will meet 6:45-8 p.m.
Tuesdays for seven weeks, beginning
Jan. 28, at Temple Shir Shalom.
The group will be facilitated by
Judi Rosen-Davis. This support
group is not affiliated with any reli-
gious or faith-based organization and

Havdalah Rocks
At Adat Shalom

Adat Shalom Synagogue will hold a
Havdalah Rocks service 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 18, for family mem-
bers of all ages. Families will also
have the opportunity to participate
in Havdalah candlemaking and
dancing.
Adat Shalom's "Rocks" team con-
sists of Cantor Howard Glantz (gui-
tar and vocals), Rabbi Daniel Nevins
(percussion and vocals), Rabbi
Herbert Yoskowitz (spirit specialist)
and Morrine Maltzman on keyboard.

Scholar Visits
Tri- City Area

Neila Carlebach, widow of Shlomo
Carlebach, will be the scholar-in-res-
idence for the tri-city Jewish com-
munity of Bay City, Saginaw and
Midland Jan. 17-19.
There will be an oneg Shabbat in
Saginaw, a melavah malkah in Bay
City and a Sunday morning shiur at
Temple Beth Israel in Bay City.
