B'nai B'rith Great Lakes Region
Center for Jewish Identity will co-
sponsor — with the Jewish Genealogy
Society of Michigan, the Jewish
Historical Society of Michigan,
Hadassah and Bar-Ilan University —
an evening with Professor Xu Xin.
The event will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
Feb. 6, at Congregation. Shaarey
Zedek Southfield.
A professor of history of Jewish cul-
ture, director of the Center for Jewish
Studies at Nanjing University, People's
Republic of China, Professor Xu Xin
is an authority on the Jews of old
China. He was elected to receive an
honorary doctorate from Bar-Ilan
University in Israel. Among his
achievements, he translated the entire
Encyclopedia Judaica into Chinese.

The Koach chapter of Women's
American ORT will present its annual
Wingo (Women's Only Bingo)
Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Jewish
Community Center in West
Bloomfield. Registration will begin at
6 p.m. A kosher vegetarian dinner will
be served. In addition, there will be a
silent auction and raffle prizes.
The David Hermelin ORT
Resource Center, being constructed at
the JCC in West Bloomfield, will pro-
vide educational services to all facets
of the community. The money raised
at Wingo and other Koach-sponsored
events goes directly to aid ORT
schools all over the globe, with a pri-
mary focus on Israel.

NCCJ Gains
Recognition

The National Conference for
Community and Justice, historically
known in Detroit as the Interfaith
- Round Table, was recognized for its
ongoing efforts to encourage diversity
during the inaugural Kaleidoscope of
Culture Diversity Awards reception.
Daedra McGhee, associate director of
NCCJ, accepted the award.
