T

he bleachers were
on back order, but
the floor was top-
notch and the light-
ing superb as Yeshivat Akiva
launched its new Meer Family
Gymnasium.
The Jan. 9 game, which pit-
ted Akiva's Pioneers basketball
team against the Jewish
Academy of Metropolitan
Detroit Jaguars, opened with a
3-pointer by JAMD's Ari
Carmen. The game's top scor-
er, with 13 points, was Akiva's
Ben Berlin, followed closely
by JAMD's Adam
Greenbaum, who tossed in 12
points.
Both Akiva and the JAMD
played team-oriented games,
said JAMD coach Bob
Shoemaker. The game ended
with a 59-28 Jaguar win.
Next year, the JAMD,
which is housed at the Jewish
Community Center in West
Bloomfield, will host Akiva in
the JCC's newly renovated
g oy ym.
