you read the local paper, the most
interesting items would be that the for-
mer mayor of Migdal HaEmek, Shaul
Altar, was snubbed at the celebrations
of its 50th anniversary and Menachem
Ariav, our mayor for the last 25 years, is
upset that the promoters of the Trans-
Israel Freeway neglected to place
Naztrat Illit on the map they published
recently. So you see, we manage rather
well.

Your Editor's Notebook "Israel's
Unflappable Will" (Jan. 10, page 5) as a
whole was interesting and informative.
However, I would like to comment on
two words that I think should never be
used when writing about Palestinian
terrorism: "Palestinian uprising."
Palestinian terrorism is not a
Palestinian uprising. I wish the Jews
here in the United States would give
terrorists/murderers the real description
of what they are — terrorists.
Ghetto Varsha (Warsaw) was an
uprising. What the Palestinians terror-
ists are doing are plain acts of terror,
period. The word "uprising" in the
American Heritage Dictionary character-
izes the word as a revolt, an insurrec-
tion, an upward slope, an act of rising
or rising up, a rebellion. Can you com-
pare this characterization of the word
uprising to the word terror? We should
not fall into the Arabs' trap when they
call these acts of terror intifa' da. We
should call it like it is — terrorism.

Bridge Building
Just Symbolic

It appears that local efforts between
Jews and Arabs to build friendships
between us that can extend to the
Middle East are more symbolic than
anything else ("'Where, Oh Where is
the Outrage?" Jan. 10, page 29).
Perhaps we should be grateful that
the Arab non-response to terrorist acts
is an honest reaction as opposed to the
politically correct condemnations
offered by the PLO (Palestine
Liberation Organization).
Unfortunately, having to ask for Arab
renunciation of terrorist acts sounds
like the old shopping adage about
price: If you have to ask, you can't
afford it.
