Gluzman, attributing his success
with countless orchestras to playing
from the heart, also has presented
numerous recitals with his wife,
pianist Angela Yoffe.
"I met my wife at the music school
in Russia, and her life has a story simi-
lar to mine," Gluzman says. "Her fam-
ily immigrated to Israel one year after
my family. We had a concert together
and got to know each other during
rehearsals. Our parents were friends,
but this was not a setup."
The couple, who recently estab-
lished a second home in Chicago to
accommodate their part-time teaching
assignments at Roosevelt University,
are looking forward to the release of a
new CD that showcases their com-
bined talents while associating them
with another Jewish artist from Russia.
"The whole album is music by a
young composer, Lera Auberbach, who
is the same age as me," Gluzman says.
"She escaped from Russia when she
was 16 and in the States for a summer
festival. Lera didn't want to go back [to
Russia], and got away from the KGB."
Auberbach, also a pianist and a poet,
made New York her home and has
written 24 pieces for Gluzman and
Yoffe. They are preludes for violin and
piano and will be released in 2003 or
2004 by BIS, a Swedish record label.
Gluzman's full professional schedule
leaves little time for other experiences. A
devoted reader, he has managed to find
many used bookstores in his travels. His
book collection is important as he relax-
es on a favorite sofa or commutes to
concerts during long plane rides.
The violinist currently is reading an
out-of-print memoir by Golda Meir's
son, Menachem, a cellist.
"I live in Israel and Chicago," says
Gluzman, who has performed with
Neemi Jarvi's son in Australia but
never with the senior Jarvi. "But most-
ly, I live on planes." ❑

p.m. Thursday, 1:30 and 8 p.m.
Friday and 8:30 p.m. Saturday,
Jan. 16-18. One hour before each
performance, and at no additional

symphony or appearing as guests.
