Bouffard.
After communicating for nine
months via e-mail, the two
finalized their plans in three
breakneck days in Texas. They
got together again, in Michigan,
to complete the project.
"We worked 15 hours a day,
four days straight," Cohen said.
Aerial which weighs 45
pounds, is constructed of alu-
minum rods connected by sheen
fabrics. Each section is about 6
by 9 feet in size and designed to
look like floating leaves, in grad-
ually shifting colors.
"The top uses light blues to
represent the sky, shading to pur-
ples in the center, which suggest
mountains, then green and
brown for the earth," Cohen

"It gives kind of a spiritual, cer-
emonial tone to it," Bouffard said. -
Cohen, who has worked as an
artist-in-residence at the Jewish
Academy of Metropolitan
Detroit, teaches adult ceramics
at the JCC in West Bloomfield
and is youth adviser at
Congregation Shaarey Zectek.
"When I'm in Israel, I spend a
lot of time in the Golan, and it
has been a major influence on
my work," she said. "From the
Heights, you look to the north
and see farmers' fields, with the
expanse of sky overhead."
