Mr. Stasson was a musician, violinist, per- former, teacher and conductor and trained students who are now profes- sionals all over the world. He served in the 106th Infantry Division, 59th Signal Battalion at Normandy beachhead during the World War II. He and his unit lib- erated the Buchenwald concentration camp. He received the Bronze Star. Mr. Stasson was a graduate of Wayne State University and held Jerome Stasson advanced degrees from the University of Michigan. While attending Wayne State University, he was the concertmaster of its orchestra and of the Jewish Community Center orchestra. He also attended the Juilliard Graduate School of Music. Mr. Stasson spent 37 years as a teacher and administrator work- ing for the -Detroit Board of Education and was the fine arts department head/administrator at Martin Luther King High School in Detroit. He had also been a teacher at Mumford High School and Chadsey High School in Detroit. Mr. Stasson was a member of the Detroit Musicians League and the Michigan Music Teachers Association as well as the Detroit Federation of Musiciaris. He 'also belonged to the American String Teachers Association and was the conductor of the Shaarey Zedek Youth Orchestra for 16 years. Mr. Stasson is survived by his loving wife, Betty Kowalsky Stasson; daugh- ters Debra Stasson of Santa Monica, Calif., Shelley Stasson of West Bloomfield; brother and sister-in-law, Irving (Yisroel) and Tzila Stashefsky of Israel; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and S. Arrangements by Dorfman Chapel. Football Legend Sid Gillman, 91 Sid Gillman, one of football's most revered innovators, died Jan. 3, 2003, in Los Angeles at age 91. Gillman, who was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1991, is credited with creating the modern passing game and with being one of the originators of the Super Bowl. Gillman was an All-American offensive and defensive end at Ohio State in 1932 and 1933, and then played pro football for one season with the Cleveland Rams. Between 1955 and 1974, he served as head coach for several teams. Gillman was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in 1983. Correction The obituary for Bella Bellow (Dec. 20) should have indicated that she is sur- vived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Harold Cymerint of Oak Park.
