urniture designer M. Fillmore Harty returned home recently to

etroit to meet with staff and clients at Gorman's in
Southfield. Harty designed four new collections for W. Schillig
— Heidelberg, Chicago, Continental and Metro. The collec-
tions feature a new S-suspension. Harty eagerly pounced on the sofas,
demonstrating the potent drop-in coil springs.
"To be valued, you must be able to build it," says Harty, who actually
builds and designs prototypes in his New Hampshire home. "I treat it as

sculpture," said the former Ford Motor Co. employee and Bloomfield
Township resident. Another dynamic component of the W. Schillig col-
lections is the Butterfly fabric, a newly developed micro-fiber material.
Bernie Moray, president of Gorman's, attested that difficult stains could
be removed from this suede-like, soft fabric in sumptuous colors.
Many pieces in the collections are multi-functional. In one sectional, a
side chaise can be flipped to turn the sofa into a small bed. Price points

range from $3,000 to $5,000.
