JARC Receives Grants, Award Farmington Hills-based JARC received the SBC Excelerator Award and a grant of $25,000 from the SBC Foundation. JARC is one of 40 organizations select- ed from a pool of more than 280 pro- posals submitted in Michigan. The grant supports a pilot program of JARC, the Training, Education and Communication Project, that helps peo- ple with disabilities and their caregivers through technology. The SBC Excelerator Grant will provide ongoing computer skills training for the residents and staff of JARC's 20 group homes. Other privately donated funds will purchase computers, printers, scanners, fax machines and high-speed Internet connections for each of the homes. JARC was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Widman Fund of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan to support JARC's Cheers Project. It will enable adults with developmental disabilities to become more fully included in commu- nity life. The program will help participants pursue individual interests in the com- munity and develop friendships with people without disabilities, thereby reducing reliance on paid staff for social relationships. JARC was also honored as one of the Metropolitan Detroit's 101 Best and Brightest Companies to work-for by the Michigan Business and Professional Association. The award is given to organizations that recognize employees as their greatest assets.
