Kids And Crafts

s the old year drew to a close,
learning the aleph-bet took a
back seat to partying at a local
synagogue's supplementary school.
Melissa Bronstein, a teacher at
Temple Kol Ami, took her students to
Kidding Around, a new craft store in
the Bloomfield Avenue Shoppes II
shopping center on Haggerty north of
Maple in West Bloomfield, for an
afternoon of sand art, plaster painting
and T-shirt design.
Along with fun times for kids, the
store, which opened in October, has
planned several fund-raisers for local
synagogues. Owners are sisters-in-law
Stacey Nathanson and Wendy
Nathanson, both of Farmington Hills.

Interfaith Help

A

bout 25 Jews attended an -
interfaith holiday celebration at
the Islamic Association of
Greater Detroit in Rochester Hills on
Dec. 22.
Sponsored by the National
Conference for Community and
Justice Michigan Region, the
Interfaith Partners and the American
Arab and Jewish Friends, some 100
participants packaged toiletries, socks
and underwear for the homeless in
the Pontiac area and shared traditions
observed during Chanukah,

Christmas and Ramadan.
The plan is to make these congrega-
tional events in other locations at least
once every two months, said Daniel
Krichbaum, local NCCJ executive
director. The next event is planned for
a synagogue in February, followed by
a church event in April.

"The best way to grow the inter-

gregations, and we want to make that
a priority of NCCJ's work over the
next couple of years."
