brunch for the players on Super Bowl
Sunday. The league currently has a
waiting list of prospective players.

The team captained by Kevin
Granader won the Detroit Bagel
Factory "Matza" Bowl of the Yiddish
Football League on Dec. 8 at
Birmingham Groves High School.
This was the twelfth year of the
YFL. The team of Granader, David
Goldberg, Dr. Bruce Ruben, Jason
Eisenberg (MVP of the Matza Bowl
with four touchdown catches), and
two non-Jews, Gary Alatchanian and
Ali Pellumbi, scored a 7-5 victory in
the championship game.
There are no field goals or extra
points, just one point for a touch-
down.
The team finished the regular season
8-2 (first place). The YFL has six
teams; the top four make the playoffs.
The game is played on a fifty-yard
field with 10-yard end zones, allowing
two games on the field simultaneously.
The games are one-hand touch, but
the games are physical and the line
play is rough, according to Granader.

Waxer Rolls
His First 300

Veteran bowler Howard Waxer rolled
the first 300 game in his 40-year
bowling career Dec. 16.
The 202-average bowler rolled the
game at Country Lanes in Farmington
in the B'nai B'rith Brotherhood:Eddie
Jacobson League. It was the second
game in a 214-300-223/737 series.
"It was a greater pleasure than any-
thing else I've ever done," said Waxer,
age 54, of Farmington Hills. "I've
done it in practice, but never for real

Bowling Scores

... It was also
exciting for me to
bowl it with so
many friends
present."
Waxer is a
board member of
the Metropolitan
Detroit B'nai
B'rith Bowling
Association, and
bowls weekly
Howard Waxer
with
Brotherhood-
Eddie Jacobson
as well as with Pisgah Lodge.
In July 2001, he was a member of
the U.S. bowling team at the World
Maccabiah Games in Israel and he will
represent the U.S. at the Pan
American Maccabiah in Santiago,
Chile next December.
Waxer said said the league took a
break after the second game to
announce jackpots and other games.
He said the 10-15 minute break
before the last game allowed him to
regain his composure. He also won the
"mystery jackpot" when 300 was •
selected as the winning score, but he
said it wasn't as exciting as actually
rolling the 300 game.
