SAJE (Seminars for Adult Jewish Enrichment) will add three new courses to its schedule this year: Krav Maga, the Israeli Art of Self-Defense; Confronting Angels in the Jewish Tradition; and Talmud Text for Our Times. SAJE is an adult Jewish education program sponsored by the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit in partnership with local con- gregations and organizations. It will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 11-March 13, at both JCC buildings. The four-week sessions cover a vari- ety of topics relating to Jewish life: kosher cooking, spirituality, texts, Jewish history, Jewish culture, Jewish holidays, Hebrew and traditions. Chairing SAJE this year are Susie Citrin of Birmingham and Doris Blechman of Bloomfield Hills. SAJE is open to adults who wish to enhance their Jewish knowledge. Local rabbis, cantors, educators, scholars and community leaders, rep- resenting a range of Jewish obser- vance, teach the courses. A kickoff event, the fourth annual Shiffman Family Lecture, featuring Rabbi Daniel Gordis, will take place 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the JCC in West Bloomfield. Dr. Gordis is director of the Jerusalem Fellows program and a member of the.senior staff of the Mandel Foundation Sector on Jewish Education and Continuity in Jerusalem. Admission to the lecture is $5. SAJE classes are $25 each or $40 for unlimited classes. Those purchas- ing a ticket to the kickoff event between Jan. 6-Feb. 5 will receive a $5 credit in the SAJE 2003 unlimited class registration.
