JCC Facelift

I is been a gradual evolution, but progress
certainly can be
measured in the
grand new lobby, the full-
service kosher restaurant,
the spilled-up social halls,
the state-of-the-art child
development center and
upgraded fitness center.
Clearly, the Jewish
Community Centers in
West Bloomfield and Oak
Park have benefited from the $33 million in
renovations that began in 1998.
But there's more and its coming next year
with the completion of the final phase of ren-
ovations that include the new health and fit-
ness wing and the Weinberg Judaic
Enrichment Center, both in West Bloomfield.
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit, like many around the
country that have undertaken renovations, is
banking on the improvements to increase
Jewish involvement and boost revenue. Staff
Writer Sharon Luckerman previews the
upcoming changes and takes a hard look at
how they play into the JCC's future.
