Ms. Novin is survived by her nieces and nephews, Janet and Jerome Rosman, Norman and Jean Loren, Laura and Barry Pike; many other nieces, nephews and great- nieces and great-nephews. RUTH SIMMONS RUBIN, 82, former Detroiter of California, died Nov. 20. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Simmons and the late Mel Rubin; loving sister of the late Sanford Friedman; sister-in-law of the late Mildred Friedman. Interment in Florida. Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. EDYTHE SHEVITZ, 86, of Farmington Hills, died Nov. 24, 2002. She was born in 1915 in Grand Rapids, the daughtei of Morris and Beatrice Shoob. She was raised in Detroit and was an honor student at Northern High School. Mrs. Shevitz Edythe was an accomplished Shevitz and talented pianist and a spelling champ. She became a social worker and married Sidney M. Shevitz, who died in 1971. She stood by and supported Sidney when he was pres- ident of the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit and also chairman of the State of Michigan Civil Rights Commission. A music enthusiast, Mrs. Shevitz spent her last 18 years as the loving companion of Harry J. Goldstein. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Henry and Susan Shevitz of Bloomfield Hills, Rabbi Daniel and Amy Shevitz of Venice, Calif.; daughter, Vivian Shevitz of S. Salem, N.Y.; sister and brother-in-law, Zelma and Morris Axelrod of Tempe, Ariz.; grandchil- dren, Loren, Shana, Joshua, Noah, Sydney and Alyson; companion, Harry J. Goldstein.
