DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
Three Detroiters have taken leader-
ship positions within the Reform
movement on community and
regional levels.
Allan Tushman of
Temple Israel was
elected president of
the Northeast Lakes
Council-Detroit
Federation of the
Union of American
Hebrew
Allan
Congregations at the
Tushman
UAHC regional
biennial Nov. 8-10
in Toledo.
Linda Brodsky,
also of Temple Israel,
was elected president
of the Metropolitan
Detroit Federation
Linda Brodsky of Reform
Synagogues.
Dennis Frank of
Temple Beth El was
elected to the
UAHC Board of
Trustees.
About 300 dele-
gates from 68
Dennis Frank Reform congrega-
tions in Michigan,
Ohio, Pennsylvania
and Indiana attended the UAHC
regional biennial, whose theme was
"Celebrating Reform Judaism:
Uplifting the Soul, Nourishing the
Mind." The UAHC represents 900
Reform congregations throughout
North America.
Varied aspects of synagogue life
were addressed at the conference,
including family issues, lifelong
learning, "our Israel connection,"
synagogue management, music and
worship.
The pilot version of the Central
Conference of American Rabbis'
new prayer book, Mishkan Tfilah,
with its creative texts, modern
translations and unusual layouts,
was introduced at Shabbat-morning
worship services. Service leaders
and participants provided observa-
tions and suggestions on the prayer
book, which will be forwarded to
the CCAR.
The UAHC's national biennial
will be held in Minneapolis in
November 2003. The next regional
biennial is scheduled for November
2004 in Dayton, Ohio.
