The Majestic Theatre Center and the
Ecumenical Institute for Jewish-
Christian Studies will host a family fun-
fest, complete with breakfast buffet and
viewing area, at the beginning of
America's Thanksgiving Day Parade
route starting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday,
Nov. 28.
The Majestic Theatre complex, on
Woodward Avenue at Alexandrine
Street in Detroit, has been owned by
the Zainea family since 1946, and has a
long tradition of hosting a large group
for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. This
year, the Zainea family is welcoming
friends and members of the Ecumenical
Institute to join in this Detroit tradi-
tion.
"Oftentimes, we see the third and
fourth generations of friends and cus-
tomers," says "Papa Joe" Zainea.
"Guests can view the parade, duck
inside the complex to warm up with
coffee and hot chocolate, kids can bowl
afterward — it's just a fun-filled day."
Linking the Zainea family and the
Ecumenical Institute was the brain-
storm of Ecumenical Institute board
member Mark Segal. "I've only missed
one parade in 35 years," says Segal.
'About 13 years ago, I discovered the
Majestic and have always envisioned
utilizing the entire complex for a fund-
raising event."
The buffet breakfast costs $15 for
adults and $7 for children age 12 and
younger. Patron tickets (limited to the
first 120 paid reservations) are $25 each
— and include a private dining and
viewing area.

Camp Scholarship
Fund Established

The Kowalsky family has established the
Larry and Edith Kowalsky Bubbie-
Zayde Camp Scholarship Fund at
Tamarack Camps.
This memorial tribute to Edith and
Larry Kowalsky, who were killed in the
crash of Egypt Air 990 in 1999, will
provide financial assistance for families
to enjoy the Bubbie-Zayde camp pro-
gram. In recognition of the scholarship,
the camp has designated the Larry and
Edith Kowalsky Fishing Dock and the
Larry and Edith Kowalsky Fire Pit.
