RINKE CADILLAC
85 Years And Still Delivering

BREAK

Second-Century
Artifacts Found

Jerusalem/JTA — Papyrus scrolls dat-
ing to the second-century Jewish
rebellion against the Romans were dis-
covered in a Judean desert cave.
Rappelling into the cave in the Ein
Gedi reserve, researchers from Hebrew
University, Bar-Ilan University and
Stanford University discovered the
scrolls. They also found crude arrow-
heads and coins bearing the Hebrew
name "Shimon," a reference to the
leader of the rebellion against the
Roman army, Shimon Bar Kochba.
A Hebrew University researcher said
the items probably belonged to Jews
from the Ein Gedi region who hid in
the remote cave to escape the Roman
army.

10 Commandments
Legal Fight Brews

Montgomery/JTA — The chief justice
of Alabama's Supreme Court vowed a
legal fight to keep a monument of the
Ten_ Commandments in the Alabama
judicial building.
Chief Justice Roy Moore, who
installed the monument, said through
his lawyer that he would ask an
appeals court to allow the 5,300-
pound granite monument to stay
where it is until the appeals process is
completed.
U.S. Judge Myron Thompson ruled
that the monument be removed from
the Alabama judicial building in
Montgomery because it violates the
U.S. Constitution's ban on govern-
ment endorsement of religion.
